School Children Suffering Form Back Pain

Back pain is not only bothering adults; it’s making life miserable for many children as well. No one seems to care that kids are suffering from back pain.

This alarming observation was raised by Orange Country chiropractors who said that children as young as six years old are suffering from back pain owing to heavy school bags, lack of exercise and too many hours in front of the TV.

In the United Kingdom alone, the number of kids with back problems is growing at a disturbing rate, according to the British Chiropractic Association (BCA). Thirty two percent of kids have back pain by ages 6-7 and forty five percent have it by age 11.

The computer age is partly to blame for this problem. For one who has been offering chiropractic care in Orange County for over 17 years, I discovered from the same survey that almost half of 6- to 15-year-olds or 45 percent of school children spend more time playing computer games or watching TV rather than playing outside.

Also backpacks are a leading cause of back pain. These book bags are notorious for causing back pain when worn incorrectly.

“The survey of 1,200 children found the daily school routine is also taking its toll with 72 percent of the nation's school children carrying around heavy books and sports equipment all day on their backs. And the bags they are carrying may be causing even more harm, with nearly two thirds (63 percent) wearing a backpack incorrectly on both shoulders,” reported the Daily Mail.
